Source Release for aerospace manufacturing supply chains

Aerospace Manufacturing and Design magazine recently featured an article regarding “Source Release”–a growing trend in the aerospace industry to allow vendors to obtain the ability to inspect parts on behalf of the manufacturer. Also sometimes referred to as “Delegated Source Inspection,” this practice saves time and money by not having to wait for the OEM’s source inspection to take place.

According to the article, “[The vendor] can ship their parts directly, straight to the production line into an assembly and the [OEM] can be secure in the knowledge that the part meets requirements.”

In even larger supply chains–with more sub-tiers between the vendor and the OEM–vendors can also opt to source release, or delegate, one or more of their sub-tiers to perform their inspection in place of the vendor’s own quality inspectors. This “double delegation” can also save precious time and eliminate excess shipping costs.

Aero-Spaces, LLC. has provided this type of service now for about five years. We can act on the behalf of vendor/suppliers to provide source quality inspection prior to shipping to the OEM. Our quality staff has 75 years of combined experience in the aerospace industry, and given your inspection specifications, we can provide a tremendous service for your company.

If you currently are experiencing excessive shipping costs or delays due to the availability of source quality inspectors, please contact us today so that we can begin discussions on how Aero-Spaces can fix this one critical area of  your supply chain.

Aero-Spaces’ hardest working employee

It’s been a while (three years, to be exact) since we’ve discussed our MVE (most valued employee), and we thought now would be a good time to get you caught up with how he’s been doing.

MAX joined Aero-Spaces back in 2008 and has been hard at work ever since. He’s never called in sick and has hardly taken any vacation. It seems like every week, we ask MAX to take on more and more workload, and he just accepts it gladly and gets it all done with ease.

Of course, if you’ve been around a while, you know we’re not talking about a person, but our custom-designed software called min/MAXimizer. MAX has grown up so much since 2008 and can now help vendors and suppliers manage their inventory and build schedules even better than before.

In 2008, we mentioned how MAX can do all kinds of exception reporting on your customer’s inventory such as min/max changes, forecast changes, parts slow to receive, and more. Since then, he’s learned how to do all this using the information provided on Cessna’s ESIS system in addition to Spirit’s Client Portal.

MAX has also learned to produce a manufacturing planning report that includes information such as your customer’s inventory levels, WIP, parts in transit and more, and then combines that with the customer’s forecast to give you a clear, color-coded indication of when you need to start building more parts.

MAX also has some EBQ/EOQ tools at his disposal. With these tools, he can tell you how many pieces to build at a time to maximize your profits and whether warehousing would be a beneficial addition to your supply stream or not.

Now that many OEMs are moving to vendor-owned or vendor-managed inventory, it is increasingly important that vendors and suppliers have the most accurate picture possible of their inventory levels and activity.

If your company struggles to manage inventory at your customer’s location, or even if you simply don’t like to do it, Aero-Spaces has one hard-working employee who will gladly take on that task for you. He’ll toil for you day and night to make sure that your inventory is working for you and not against you.

You won’t even have to send him a fruit basket for Christmas.

Visit our Contact Us page in order to learn how you can get MAX on your team.

Aero-Spaces celebrates four years

Ryan Corcoran, General Manager, builds sawhorses for Aero-Spaces on its first day, March 1, 2007.

March 1, 2011 marks the fourth anniversary of Aero-Spaces’ first day in business. We began with one client, a truck, a trailer, a warehouse, and an idea. Now four years later, we are into our third truck, second trailer, and ninth employee. We’ve become the only Customs Bonded warehouse in Kansas outside of Kansas City, developed one-of-a-kind inventory tracking software, and provided unparalleled service to the Wichita aerospace industry.

We thank everyone for their business and their support of our venture that has brought us this far, and we see great things on the horizon. With the Lord’s help, we’ll be here to celebrate many more anniversaries in the future.

“‘…I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Spotlight on Brian Middleton, president

The Wichita Eagle featured Aero-Spaces president Brian Middleton in a “Spotlight” article on Sunday, February 27. The article was timed to coincide with the U.S. Defense Department’s recent announcement that Boeing won the 767 tanker contract that it has been bidding for many years (and famously lost to EADS once before). In the article, Brian discusses the benefits of using a customs-bonded warehouse, as well as how Aero-Spaces helps its clients through advanced data management software and even offers a couple tips to people who might be interested in owning their own business.

Congratulations, Brian, on being one of Wichita’s spotlights!

Happy Valentines Day!

In the news again

Returnable crates awaiting their return trip overseas!Brian Middleton, President of Aero-Spaces, was quoted in the Wichita Business Journal again today, this time in regards to the value of returnable containers. As resources become more scarce, companies are looking for ways to save money and precious materials. Using returnable containers is one way to see a pretty decent and quick return on investment.

For more information about how Aero-Spaces can help you explore the addition of Returnable Containers into your supply chain, please see our page on our Value-Added services.
